What is EN Standard?
A European standard is a specific requirement that sets out rules, guidelines and characteristics for a product, component, service or system. EU legislation is a standard that has been developed by one of the three recognised European Standardisation Organisations (ESOs): CEN, CENELEC or ETSI. It is developed on the basis that all parties involved share the same common interest and want to see improvement being made. They must follow some basic principles such as consensus, openness, transparency and non-discrimination.
European Standards are an important aspect to many organisations, playing a crucial part in the way a business conducts its system and processes. A standard is developed on the basis of providing businesses and individuals with a common ground that all parties must comply with. It represents a specific specification in which a product, service or system follows to improve safety and quality of the market. Each European Standard is identified by a unique reference code which contains the letters 'EN'.
A European Standard with which Tidyco complies, is the EN 45545-2 Rail Standard, which is the pertaining to fire protection on railway applications used in the rolling stock market. It states anything weighing more than 100 grams on a train, including all the components and materials must undergo a fire safety test.
