Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Servicing

BS 5839-1 recommends that the period between successive inspection and servicing visits should not exceed six months. If this recommendation is not implemented, it should be considered that the system is no longer compliant.

It is essential that periodic inspection and testing is carried out so that faults can be identified, measures can be implemented to prevent system failure, issues with false alarms can be suitably rectified and any changes to the building layout that may deem the current protection to be ineffective can be identified. 

Periodic inspection and servicing needs to be carried out by a competent person with specialist knowledge of fire detection and fire alarm systems.
